Most of my Foodgasm posts tend to be non-vegetarian dishes. That is just me. But I do look to add recipes for dishes that strike me as being a touch above the normal. And one of the dishes we made at home that definitely fits that criteria is this outstanding Easy-to-Make Eggless Chocolate Cake.
We are only on to the second picture of seven and already I need to ask you - "Have you started drooling yet?"
Because I promise you that by the time you see picture 7, you will be. (It is a different matter that you may also be cursing me!!)
What you see here is one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever had. And you know what is more amazing?
- It can be easily made at home.
- It is eggless.
- It can be prepared really quickly.
Ingredients :
- Flour - 1 and a half cups.
- Cocoa powder - 1/4 cup.
- Baking soda - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 cup, powdered
- Cold water - 1 cup
- Oil (preferably olive) - 1/3 cup
- Vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Vanilla essence - 1 teaspoon
- Butter - 1 teaspoon
For icing -
- Sugar - 6 tablespoons, powdered
- Cocoa powder - 3 tablespoon
- Butter - 2 tablespoon
- Milk - 1 tablespoon
Recipe:
- Heat the oven to 180 degrees.
- Smear butter on the inside of the cake tray.
- Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl.
- Add powdered sugar and mix well.
- To this, add cold water, oil, vinegar and vanilla essence.
- Whisk slowly for one minute and then at high speed for two minutes.
- Add this mix to the baking tray and place in the oven, baking it for 15 minutes.
- Icing is prepared by beating all the ingredients well till you get a smooth consistency.
- Take out the cake and add a generous layer of icing on it and then grill it in the oven once more till the color of the icing changes to a dark chocolate-y brown.
- Take it out and allow it to cool before serving.

Expect to see the odd food recipe like this at Godyears too - all prepared by my mother - from recipes she has collected as far back as the 1980's - with some unique to Kerala cuisine and some variations of international dishes.
Since the goal is to share, I will be looking to make all the recipes into easy downloadable single images as well so that you can save them on to your mobile/device and use them offline. Of course, if you do try them out, it would be awesome if you gave me (and her) feedback here on what you thought of the dish.

Ah yes, Picture 7. Well, this is how we had it at home: Chocolate Cake + Almond & Praline ice cream + Belgian Chocolate ice cream + Watermelon jelly + Hershey's Chocolate syrup... only. |
