This week, we had some lovely guests over for lunch. Part of the 'online to real life friends' category, they, like us, are food lovers. And so, we had an assortment of dishes ready for them when they arrived.
There was idiyappam (string hoppers) and prawn curry, biryani, chicken curry and stew besides a bunch of the regular accompaniments. One of those accompaniments was something I had never had at home before. It was a lovely spicy watermelon salad.
(P.S. For those of you who want to know the benefits of eating watermelon, look no further than Helen Nicols well researched article in Well-Being Secrets - "Health Benefits of Watermelon")
Sure, we have all had some variations of watermelon salad but this was awesome on so many levels.
Hot yet cold.
The blend of chillies and onions gave a mildly hot touch that surprised the tongue used to the sweet watermelon taste. And yet, keeping it in the fridge till the end gave it a lovely cool feel.
Oil free.
Healthy.
Easy peasy.
You are done making it in barely 5 minutes.
Extremely delicious.
For all its simplicity, this was an absolutely brilliant dish and was appreciated by all at the table.

Expect to see the odd food recipe like this at Godyears too - all prepared by my mother - from recipes she has collected as far back as the 1980's - with some unique to Kerala cuisine and some variations of international dishes.
Since the goal is to share, I will be looking to make all the recipes into easy downloadable single images as well so that you can save them on to your mobile/device and use them offline. Of course, if you do try them out, it would be awesome if you gave me (and her) feedback here on what you thought of the dish.

Spiciness depends on amount of chilly you add in... you can make it a single chilly if you want. But do add atleast one for the taste.
