This post is part of my #A2ZChallenge for April 2016 where my theme is TV Sitcoms.
For the letter L, I choose Love: the TV Couples we adore.
I always have a soft corner for couples in Tv shows over those in a movie. It is just that with a Tv show, you get to flesh out the bonds between them so beautifully over a long period of time. You get to showcase the intricacies of what makes them tick, something which often gets lost in a 2 hour movie.
There are so many couples from TV shows whom we adore and probably yearn to emulate in our own personal lives. Here are my choices for TV couples I love.
Kate Beckett & Richard Castle, Castle.
The two who showcase how the little moments matter and take you through the whole cycle of first meeting, disdain, annoyance, infatuation, crush, caring for one another, fear of being rejected, realizing it is love. My Gold standard for love in a TV show.
Marshall & Lily, How I Met Your Mother
So much positive energy. So many ways to showcase how keeping each other as a top priority matters.
Chandler & Monica, FRIENDS
Tight call between these two and Ross & Rachel. I am choosing these two because they constantly boost each other up. In spite of being polar opposites, they fit together, accepting each other's 'crazy'.
I agree. Loved that season
Phil & Claire Dunphy, Modern Family
Again a show where all 3 couples offer something positive to covet. I choose Phil & Claire over Mitch & Cam because as a couple married for 16 years with 3 grown kids, they still manage to keep the magic alive with their own cute & naughty ways.
Claire: Honey, do you want popcorn or anything?
Phil: No, I’m good… ‘N’ plenty. So hold your water ‘cause I’ve got some “twix” up my sleeve.
Claire: You may be cool, but I’m… wine cooler.
Phil: I love us.
Brad & Jane, Happy Endings
The relationship I want to emulate someday. Its basically Chandler & Monica, done better.
Quick-witted hubby, perfectionist wife, opposites in so many matters but always knowing they love each other and that they matter to the other.
Will & Grace, Will & Grace
Do you really need sex to be in love? If there is a show that underlined that fact better than this, I don't know which one it is. Neurotic Grace and her gay best friend Will were one of the best stories of loving each other through thick and thin. Most real life married couples would kill to have half the emotional bond these two shared.
David Addison & Maddie Hayes, Moonlighting
Before Bruce Willis was Die Hard, he played arguably his best role ever. As the smooth talking Detective working alongside the bankrupt model now running the detective agency, their tender moments together as they slowly fell for each other were some of the highlights of the best years of that show.
Leslie & Ben, Parks and Recreations
Good guys/girls end up last. Nope. Not on this show. This couple was all about being sweet, funny and caring for each other and yet ending up winning. Which is really something a lot of good people who've lost in love should learn from. You don't have to give up being good in a bad world.
Kevin Arnold & Winnie Cooper, The Wonder Years
The best depiction of one's first love. The best depiction of growing up during those tumultous teenager years too, I guess.
So who did I miss? Which couples do you love and feel should be in this list?
Do tell and I will add and update the list as we go.Couples you've picked -
- Raymond & Debra, Everybody Loves Raymond.
- Harvey & Donna, Suits
- Donna & Eric, That 70's Show
- Dharma & Greg, Will & Grace
- Remington Steele & Stephanie, Remington Steele
- Booth & Bones, Bones
- Meredith & Derek, Gray's Anatomy
All great choices! and I love 'Everybody loves Raymond' too!

#AtoZChallenge -L is for Labour
Good choice - will add it.
DeleteI love Claire and Phil!!! <3 As for Marshall and Lily, those two gave everyone relationship goals but they were so fairy-taleish. Like, at the back of our minds we just knew it was too good for reality or something.
ReplyDeleteAlso, in Suits, while Harvey and Donna aren't a couple, I always kinda wished they were, yknow.
One more couple that I really liked - Donna and Eric from That 70s Show.
Marshall and Lily is seriously a life goal to aim for :)
DeleteDonna & Eric... that's one I didn't think of! Keep 'em coming
They were really sweet together. Hyde was my favourite character on the show but sadly he didn't have a proper/constant pair.
DeleteAnd hey, what were their names, those two in The Addams Family?
All your posts for the challenge so far made me realize there are so many shows I should watch!
DeleteYou missed Dharma and Greg from the same name show. Also how could you not add Remington Steele and Stephanie from that series!?
ReplyDeleteAnd Bones!!
You don't watch it? I love medical series. :D
You've caught me out here - 2 out of 3 you mentioned were in my shortlist: Dharma & Greg as well Remington Steele... They got left out when I made the final list for being relatively close to Will & Grace and Moonlighting in many ways. But now that you've mentioned it, all 3 end up on the list
DeleteMy vote for Modern Family.. Phil and Claire. But...I love Meredith and Derek from Grey's Anatomy. They have a great relationship....till the end
ReplyDeleteMeredith & Derek feature high on any such list. The reason I did not place it was only because I never followed the show... you mentioning it gets it on the list :)
DeleteMarshal and Lily are my favorite :) I get your point on love in show vs movies. It is so true.
ReplyDeleteI personally feel that it works better on tv shows than in a constrained movie timing
DeleteGlad to hear that someone agrees :)
ReplyDeleteThe first two couples that i thought when i read were the exact two that you have mentioned :D
ReplyDeleteMarshal and Lilly's marriage was an amazing episode :D
Good to hear that.. great minds think alike :)
DeleteFeeling goofy seeing all those lovely couples! Spoiled for choice on the favorite couple. You're not considering ancient soaps like Santa Barbara and the Bold and the Beautiful are you? Wonder years was first love cute! My fav would probably be Steele and Stephanie but maybe I am biased towards Brosnan ;)
ReplyDeleteI wanted to mention Steele and Stephani..but Remington Steele is quite an old show...doubted if any of Roshan's followers even herad of it!
DeleteI actually had Remington in my list and then decided it would be close to Moonlighting considering the era too.
DeleteAll of them are great couples, but my favourite is Castle and Beckett. ☺ Others that come to mind are: Lucy and Ricky from I Love Lucy, Paul and Jamie Buchman from Mad About You, Sheldon and Amy, Leonard and Penny, Howard and Bernadette, all from The Big Bang Theory.
ReplyDeleteHahaha... That's a lot of additions. :)
DeleteMere and Der!!!! <3
ReplyDeleteI went into depression after what happened to Der. Lovely post, Roshan!

It's a show I never got around to watching but I am aware that a lot of people would choose this
DeleteThe first three are my favourites too! And I love Mike and Rachel from Suits. Lovely post Doc.
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
DeleteWOw so much research... I think i know few of them though ... i am not much into English shows!
ReplyDeleteL- Love and Lies
Hopefully, this will peak some interest
DeleteGood stuff Roshan. I watch just the first couple Regulalry so obviously it will be them for me ;)
ReplyDeletedefinitely... hopefully you find some more you like
DeleteMoonlighting and The Wonder Years...ah they bring back good memories. I don't have TV any more, by choice.
ReplyDeleteThose were good years! Lots of awesome shows
DeleteYeah Ray and Debra too! :) Wonder years, sigh! You made me walk back through memory lane! Lovely shows there!
ReplyDeleteThey were lovely shows :)
DeleteI have never been very fond of English series until I found Remington Steele. Pierce Brosnan had taken over my mind and body during my teen years. I am still so fascinated by his name that I blush remembering his name.
ReplyDeleteMarshall and Lily are my favorite of all .I haven't watched many of these series.. hence probation I can't relate to other.
ReplyDeleteMonica and Chandler are my fav from the list. These days I am on a Dexter watching spree, but cant find the pairing in the 4 seasons that I have watched so far, adorable :D
ReplyDeleteI dont watch TV so much so I have no idea at all. But after your post I think I should check their stories from youtube.
ReplyDeleteI so much agree to this and to me Kate Beckett & Richard Castle are the fav TV couple as their journey looks so relatable and realistic to me.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great choice... my fav is Monica and Chandler they are just too cute.
