I was always fascinated by the reading rooms portrayed in novels and Hollywood movies. A place within the house where one could retreat to his own solitude.
I do wish I could have that 'cabin in the woods' feel for my study as well, lending it an aura of being my own private haven away from the world.
Well, I may not be ready to purchase a new house in the forest lands just yet until I win that lottery I keep aiming for but I can certainly recreate the effect, adding a faux Textured Wallpaper pattern.
Ah, yes. But I will not be alone, in some ways. I will be sharing this cabin of mine with another who, like me, is aware of the serenity that solitude and the woods offer. Sure, he may have realized it a few centuries earlier than I did but I will not hold that against him: the Yellow Door Buddha Electric Oil Burner will grant the closed surroundings a pleasant fragrance as well as the soothing light that the persona himself is always identified with.
Picture that room now? The soothing notes of Rafi or Yesudas playing mildly in the background as one reads from novels freshly purchased or more likely, revisits an old familiar world like Hogwarts through one's prized collection of books.
Of course, unlike others who have bookmarks for their books, I will need to go a step further, I fear. With the vast collection that I have accumulated over years ranging across all genres, Batman's fabled Hush graphic novel will sit besides O Henry if I am not careful. So no, my books themselves need a bookmark to separate them from each other, based on categories.
Thus, creative bookends like the Yellow Door Globe here will be visible across the room, allowing me to prioritize my collection rather than letting it all be piled up in some corner.
Light music. A warm glow. A familiar world within a book. Solitude.
