I get why this 100HappyDays challenge is so hard. Eventually the tide turns and you have a bad day and you find yourself obsessing over that moment of sorrow. The happy moment seems mundane... irrelevant even.
But that's just it. We need to focus on the happiness. Find something to smile about every day.
Earlier episodes of the Godyears #100happydays challenge featured:
Day 20 (Jan 23) - Seeing 'Lassie Blue' all shiny and sparkly after a thorough wash. She's got a long journey ahead of her in the coming week so it's always good to start off looking brand new.
While I do plan to keep updating on the #100happydays challenge, a part of me feels stifled because over the years, I usually tend to post once a week at Godyears, unless something catches my fancy. So in the coming month, there may be more posts than the usual 4-5... kindly adjust. I will park all my filmy/book/music posts at TheAppletini, of course. I have a few plans there for this year which I will reveal soon.
But that's just it. We need to focus on the happiness. Find something to smile about every day.
Earlier episodes of the Godyears #100happydays challenge featured:
- Days 1- 5: included a dog with a lot of head weight, some fun trivia for 'Castle' fans and me winning the lottery ticket.
- Days 6- 12: included a mug that needs an exorcism, inaugurating a pen given to me two years ago for a special reason and me being shortlisted for a very special Indian blog award.
- Days 13- 19: included sweets from a millionaire, the best calender for movie lovers in 2014 and the anticipation of a long awaited holiday.
Day 20 (Jan 23) - Seeing 'Lassie Blue' all shiny and sparkly after a thorough wash. She's got a long journey ahead of her in the coming week so it's always good to start off looking brand new.
Day 21 (Jan 24) - Happiness is sending an entry at, literally, the very last minute of the contest and then finding out that it won and will be published soon.
The joy of seeing your name winning a national contest never gets old |
Day 22 (Jan 25) - Not caring about calories and having juicy yummilicious sizzlers and mashed potatoes. Ah heaven!!
Prawn Sizzler at Kobe Sizzlers. |
Day 23 (Jan 26) - Cake at 12 am.
Sharing it with your best friends makes it all the more special. |
Day 24 (Jan 27) - Some days can be extremely tiring with unexpected burdens and unforeseen events. It can be really tough in those moments to find your happy moment... Today, in the midst of a lot of turbulence, I met a stranger who told me of the time he came across victims of a traffic accident bleeding on the road. When no one stopped to help them, he took them in his auto rickshaw and brought them to the hospital. 2 of the victims died... one survived and went back home to his family a fortnight later. He's the first person I've met who actually cared more for the life of a stranger than his vehicle's upholstery and made a selfless effort.
Today, I needed my faith in humanity and the existence of good, decent people to be strengthened. An absolute stranger actually walked up to me and restored that faith.
Some people still make you feel good about humanity.
Day 25 (Jan 28) - Watching your pets play 'Catching cook'... Or is it 'Pin the tail on the Doggie?'
The real comedy is watching the beagle chase the doberman! |
Day 26 (Jan 29) - The end of a long and exhaustive journey... when you finally turn off the ignition knowing that you've reached your destination safe and sound and there's a pillow there waiting for you.
Some journeys take a lot out of you. But it's worth the ride to reach the destination. |

Those are some great moments of happiness. Love your car! And that's story of what some people do to help complete strangers...it's so heart warming to hear things like that!
ReplyDeleteMy sister had told me about the 100 happy days challenge at the start of this year and soon after, I noticed a lot of people had taken it up. I want to be able to commit to it properly but haven't started yet because I know there are times I go camping where there is no network available! Which means, no instagram/FB! :-\
It's not easy... I'm starting to realise that. But it's worth it to take up the challenge... helps you focus on the positives in day to day life, rather than the stressful stuff that frequently piles on.
DeleteAnd even if you cant post it on days you're away from the net, take the pic.. when u return, post it together. The idea is to have that moment yourself... how you choose to showcase it is up to you.
love the blue colour of car.. is it a honda brio?
ReplyDeleteYup.. Honda Brio. Love the car :D Such a smooth ride.
DeleteSweet car...love the color! So many moments of happiness and the selfless acts of the people you mention was just awesome. There are good people in the world with good kind hearts. Your post of happiness made me happy! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy. I love the colour of the Brio too... I'm just not a mundane white/grey car kinda guy :D
DeleteAnd yes, it is hard to find good people in today's world but they exist... we need to showcase them more instead of focusing on the unscrupulous.
Happy about the good people you met! Nice to know there is still goodness in the world!
ReplyDeleteTouchwood... we really need to showcase these guys more.
DeleteCan I say what I want to say!? Ok I'll say it anyway - I donno if this happy moment thing is good for you or not, but it's a tad boring! Maybe it should be a happy moment in a week thing so that it doesn't take over your creativity.
ReplyDeleteIgnore my comment if you think it's an awesome challenge - afterall it's all about perspective :)
I know what you mean Nisha... its exactly the point I made at the end.. all the posts this month have just been these moments and I feel constrained myself..
DeleteI do intend to change that while still showcasing this challenge (I am enjoying how it forces me to focus on the positives, something I rarely do by myself) by adding more of the regular posts and perhaps letting this be a 'once in 10 days' challenge update.
The real life story of a rickshaw wallah about helping strangers is enriching and restoring faith in goodness and humanity.May his tribe increase but no accidents on the roads.
ReplyDeleteThese kind of people are never feted in public... even though nobody does it in real life, when someone takes the trouble everyone dismisses it as 'his civic duty'. That's why I wanted to tell his story... his act so many months ago deserved a mention.
DeleteGood to know that you were able to find something that made u smile even when the tide turned. We should be thankful for those little happy moments of life n carry on :)
ReplyDeleteTrue Karanth... before, I would have just focused on the negative and allowed it to eat my mind away, ruining the day.
Delete:) Give an option to like your replies please
DeleteI would be too busy clicking 'like' to my own awesome replies then!!! :D
DeleteYOu were here and no info!! Gonna put my hands on your neck next time around! ;)
ReplyDeleteI only make 24 hour jaunts these days :D
DeleteBut don't worry... when 'baby makes 3' happens, one fine evening you will get a call asking you to open your front door.
May not be three wise men, but it will be one fat man who weighs the same as three :D
I love how you have the 33 candle on your cake. Nobody lets me put numbers on their cake anymore :D :D
ReplyDeleteI'm too old to care about hiding my age anymore :D
DeleteThank God that there are such selfless men who dont hesitate to help strangers. Have heard of so many people dying on the road and nobody to help them! Such a shame!
ReplyDeleteLove the bright and happy colour of your car! Yes, nothing like reaching the destination safely!
True. Contrary to popular beliefs, people seldom are selfless enough to help someone lying bleeding on the road.
DeleteAnd regarding the car, I love it too.. and reaching the end of a long journey safe and sound is seriously underrated !
Happy stories do make me happy... so loved your post Roshan and that reminds me I still have to post mine.
ReplyDeletehaha.. c'mon !! we need to cross the 100 day finish line.
DeleteGood going doc!! Sizzlers alone will make me happy for 2 weeks. . Then I have to go have one more again. . I think it is very healthy also to focus on the positive aspects of life and ignore the small things that ruin our days. . So next time someone asks me to work I know what to tell them. .
ReplyDeleteThanks man... thats the point I believe... we look to seek the positive moment even in a bad day... makes a world of difference.
DeleteCan't say which portion was good.....each line is so hilarious
ReplyDeleteThank you sir :)
