I think I've sang to a girl only once in my life...sufficed to say, it did not end well. There is a reason why I am still the undefeated Besurdas / Worst singer of my college... They actually stopped that contest after the year I participated because I was so horrible. Oh well, on a positive note, I won 10 points for my batch and we did win the culturals that year so yay to that!
Of course, my award winning voice pretty much scuttled any chance I ever had of serenading a woman in this lifetime. But I would like to think that on the off day when my voice is less 'pregnant-hyena' and more human, I would be ready to serenade her at a moment's notice.
There are so many more songs, I'm sure, but in no particular order, I think my choices would be:
- Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton
- You are the reason - Air Supply and Mehnaz
- When you say nothing at all - Ronan Keating
- Tum Se hi - Jab We Met
- Tum Mile - Tum Mile
- You'll be in my heart - Phil Collins
When I was talking about this with someone, they were quite amused by my views. They felt that the whole concept of serenading was outdated and wouldn't appeal to any woman in today's world. If you ask me, that's what's wrong with love today: you don't twerk your way into someone's heart... you serenade your way.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed the songs. I'm curious to see your choices. What song would you serenade your beloved with?
This is my post for the prompt 'MUSIC' for Write Tribe's 'Festival of Words'.
P.S. If I had to have one song sung to me, I think it would have to be Celine Dion's 'Because You Loved Me'
My song would be this - Ronan Keating's "When You Say Nothing At All" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTp5MTlq4GU
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel so bad for that girl. Even today, she will be getting nightmares :p :p
Well... I certainly hope so :D
DeleteJust realized you already have that song in your list. So, my choice would be this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XXRn-27T7A. Oh... I am hooked onto this song from Aashiqui 2.
ReplyDeleteI know... I love this song too... used to play it on loop continuously when it released
DeleteIt would be When You Say Nothing At All and Tum Se Hee for me!! Love these a lotttttt!!!
ReplyDeleteYay!! same pinch :D
DeleteI'd ardently hoped that I would serenaded, alas it never happened. However, if someone had chosen to serenade me, I'd have loved to have them sing Frank Sinatra's "The way you look tonight". :)
ReplyDeleteWow... thats a sweet one.. good to see Sinatra make the list
DeleteI love your collection.. Tum Mile is one of my favs too.. Something special about it
ReplyDeletei like all the versions of it but somehow this slow version is most heartfelt for me..

ReplyDeleteWow you seem a romantic by heart. Hubby can't sing really :) but 'ek din aap yun humko mil jayenge' is our song. On our engagement he requested one of our common friends to sing this on his behalf....and in return I sang 'when you say nothing at all' ...also Annie's song 'you fill up my senses' is a favorite!!
ReplyDeletewah wah.. beautiful number. Such an underrated song 'Ek din aap yun' is, na? And again, great choice with Annie's song.
DeleteI was about to say "Because you loved me" as my choice of song to serenade and then I saw that you had also mentioned it as yours!!! :D
ReplyDeletehaha... i loved it the first time i heard it. after all these decades, still find it awesome :)
DeleteAnd I tend to forget lyrics which makes it even worse....That probably is the reason why I instantly take out my phone and put up a mock face talking on a mock call - 'I am dealing with some rather serious stuff on the phone.' the moment someone decides to play 'Antakshari' at those office parties or Family functions...
ReplyDeletehaha.. i go the other way. I refuse to realise just how bad I am and take any opportunity to sing till I am forced away like a bad pup!
DeleteAnd here I was hoping you'd have a video of your performance for our entertainment! But in future, try lip-syncing! Nice collection of songs. :)
ReplyDeleteThere is a picture somewhere.. even I cant find it anymore. The picture was just as shocking as the song... I think it was the overall effect that stunned the judges..
DeleteDoc, that's a fab collection of songs. And yes, forget about how the serenading went. It's the thought that counts :)
ReplyDeletehaha... somehow thats not what those who have heard me sing have said :)
DeleteTumse hi :)
ReplyDeleteYay!! great song :)
Deletetere bin sanu sohneya koi hor naio labna....by rabbi shergill.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk7CNnC2x4I
ok i never heard this one till now... lovely Vandana :D
DeleteYou must! Wonderful song in Delhi Heights :)
DeleteDid check it out.. nice one.
DeleteHmm. I think I'd choose More Than Words by Extreme.
ReplyDeleteAww... such a nice number. Should remember that !!
DeleteFor me it will - Baby... I want you to love the way that I love you the way that it should be <3
ReplyDeleteLobo... again a lovely choice...
DeleteNow I'm wondering what a pregnant hyena sounds like. But I did love your list.. Serenading..ummm.. Nothing's gonna change my love for you..
ReplyDeleteThe association of pregnant hyenas will be suing me for this slander, I'm sure. They sound better :(
DeleteAnd nice song...
hehe! Lovely post..I like tune mujhe pehchana nahin jaana mein koi anjaana nahin ashiq hoon mein tere pyar ka..
ReplyDeletehehe.. that brings back memories... a good one :)
DeleteLOL oh my I spit out my drink when I read you don't twerk your way into someones heart because I got a very vivid mental image. LOL I am proud to say I can twerk, but I am afraid it would scare someone away or make them laugh instead of realize my undying love. Fun post. ♥
ReplyDeleteHaha... really. Even you twerk??? Damn!! you young gals and your hippie-hoppie music! I should start learning then!
DeleteI would prefer 'Love me for a reason, let the reason be love'. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd BTW, when and where did you hear a pregnant hyena? I hope you ain't a doc treating pregnant hyenas. :-P
What a lovely song to choose.. I was humming it for awhile before typing this reply... see, those were good songs.
DeleteRegarding those hyenas, what to do? Us poor doctors have to make do by doing door to door deliveries even inside the animal kingdom, these days :D
There is sur in besur and I have a suggestion. When asked to sing , clear your throat and complain that a sore throat is incapable of entertaining. Kidding.
ReplyDeletehaha... Sadly for many people, I do take up the offer to sing... thats when they realise their monumental mistake and try to shut me up!
DeleteI second ur thoughts, Roshan :) my choice would be "now that i see u" from the movie "Tangled"...
ReplyDeleteagain, a lovely song. Had not considered it till u mentioned it :)
DeleteDon't you feel animated movies have some of the best romantic songs sometimes...
I second ur thoughts, Roshan :) my choice would be "now that i see u" from the movie "Tangled"...
ReplyDeleteMy musical favs keep on changing and right now its Aashiqui 2. :)
ReplyDeleteof all the hindi songs this year, "Tum hi ho" is easily the best and one of the most soulful songs this year. Its sad that we dont have more of this when we have so many songs being released every month.
DeleteIt was a entertaining post and was wonderful to see your collection. Even though I love songs and dnt know which one would be the best to serenade... My better half had sung "chukar mere mann ko," which got drilled in my heart... Yet I tried to sing a one which he would like..seems the link doesnt work at my blog,as no one happened to notice it.
ReplyDeleteI think every couple should have one song which is 'their own', you know... which just means so much to them.
DeleteI'd go super corny with Endless Love sung by Lionel Ritchie & Diana Ross. and you are so on point you can't twerk your way into someone's heart... you need a real love song!
ReplyDeleteHaha.. high five! Down with the twerking, more serenading. And again, a lovely number... so many wonderful 80s and 90s songs are there to win a girl's heart over..
Deletei loved 'you'll be in my heart' ..wow.. why hadn't i listened it earlier...thanks for sharing...
ReplyDeleteand i had a smile pasted on my face while reading your post, throughout the post... now i'm gonna watch the other songs...
I'm a huge fan of Phil Collins... of the lot, this one remains my all time favourite.. such beautiful lyrics and that crystal voice.
DeleteThe song works both as a person to a vulnerable beloved or even as a mom to a child.
i too love tum mile, tum hi ho, tum se hi...all javed ali songs.. and i shared 'you'll be in my heart' in fb,with my friends... after all i made such a big discovery today!!
ReplyDeletehaha.. glad you enjoyed it so much. :) And a nice collection yourself :D
DeleteInteresting list, Dr. Roshan. I will go for Tum se hi.
ReplyDeleteMohit Chouhan at his best :D
DeleteI love 'When you say nothing at all', Boyzone's 'All that I need' , Backstreet Boys 'Drowning', 'Shape of my heart', Carpenters 'Top of the World' , Jab tak hai jaan (theme song) , and lots of others. The songs I mentioned, are my top favorites, and I can listen to them n times back to back and not get bored. Your list is great too and all of those are also on my playlist. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWonderful list... I honestly forgot about Boyzone's "All that I need"... used to be a fav back in those days.. sigh Those were good times.
DeleteI have spent lifetimes listening to wonderful tonight and when you say nothing at all on loop! And now I am going to listen again to Eric Clapton, wow man what songs!!
ReplyDeleteRicha
two extremely lovely songs... i miss songs like this honestly. you almost instantly know they are destined to be classics.
DeleteTum se hi and also Aaoge jab tum o saajana from Jab we met :)
ReplyDeleteSome lovely songs... I remember that film came alongside Om Shanti Om and Saawariya which had much bigger names and stars. All I could think of was that of the three, this one was easily the best for me.
DeleteTum se hi and also Aaoge jab tum o saajana from Jab we met :)
ReplyDeleteI actually still get goosebumps when the first words of Tum Se Hi start... justs such a lovely number.
DeleteOne of my All time favorites is Words by Boyzone!!
ReplyDeleteThis one by Phil Collins and that Eric Clapton songs are simply beautiful! :)
I sang Words :D That won me the Besurdas!
Deletemy choice would be....Hum mar jaayenge from ashiqui 2.....
ReplyDeleteWell thats surprising... almost everyone who considered Aashiqui 2 would have gone with Hum tere bin... :) But it was easily one of the best albums of 2013 for me.
DeleteYour friend is crazy - You are absolutely right, you serenade your way to her heart - at least I would love to be serenaded. There are so many songs but I guess my choice would be "It is you I have loved all along" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrWviWkap-Q
ReplyDeleteI totally agree... and a nice song. Honestly had not heard it before.
DeleteRonan Keating for me :) Nice post
ReplyDeleteGood to see many had a similar taste in music :D
DeleteBe Intehaa..
ReplyDeleteFor sure.
Nice choice :D
DeleteNice quote by Joseph Campbell and interesting list of songs..enjoyed this post! My pick,Tum se hi..:)
ReplyDeleteOne of my favs among Bollywood songs :)

ReplyDeleteYou Said it right Doc: " that's what's wrong with love today: you don't twerk your way into someone's heart... you serenade your way".......
ReplyDeleteVidya
If only people would get such basic logic.. instead serenading is seen as weird and passe while twerking at a pub is 'hot'!!
