Love story of a doctor... a bittersweet SMS

Dr Roshan Radhakrishnan
18

I was in 12th.
She was in 12th.

I got MBBS
She got BSc.

I was doing MBBS
She got MSc.

I was doing MBBS
She got PhD.

I completed MBBS
She got a doctorate.

She got married.
I was preparing for a PG entrance.

She is the mother of 2 children.
I am doing my MCh.

Her child is in 1st standard.
I completed my MCh.

Her son passed 10th.
I have opened my clinic.

The irony of it all ...
Today is my ENGAGEMENT...
And today is her tubectomy.

Author's note : I guess this SMS was sent as ajoke to me... but there's just something so truthful about it that struck me... because I know many a medical heart that has suffered this scene in real life and had to carry on.

  2. Was funny except for that last line..why tubectomy? Condoms or pills would have been as good, no? :P

Jokes apart, I have a few friends who chose the medical line and are still studying for god-knows-what. Add to the fact that they moved to a different country..and that involves additional years of studying for the eligibility certificate..phew!

  3. Barely getting a few hours in bed thanks to increased work load, Illeen.

Aishu, I'm part of that same loop. Have to make the choice between focussing on studies on having a good marital life... we end up wasting our entire 20s behind books eventually.

  7. A cousin's in the 'same loop'. She's crazy about her work, despite all the frustrations. So I guess, there's something satisfying in it for all you docs. It's a good thing for us , i guess.

  10. In school we are four friends and only I took engineering while other 3 went for medicine. They tell the same.. All of them just finished their studies while I started earning long long back.. But I guess the nobility of the profession is worth the trouble..

  11. not yet ap.. miles to go.

Dhanya, somehow the nobility bit sounds hollow when we watch how everyone's been able to have a life while we've been running around amidst blood and books forever, giving up everything else.
