I've really lost the ability to review films.. once upon a time, it came so naturally. Now it's more harder to hide the storyline between words.. so I'll lay it out straight to ya.
Go watch 'Rock On'. For tremendous performances by stars ( Arjun Rampal finally gets the role he will forever be remembered for and Purab Kohli emerging slowly into the 'dependable actors' category ) , non-stars ( Luke Kenny performing brilliantly and so naturally ) and talent we didn't see coming ( Farhan Akhthar as an actor and rock singer and Prachi as a oh-so-cute wife fighting her insecurities.. What a smile! ).
Watch it for a storyline we can all relate to... of life shattering the dreams we all had when we started our college lives and how, maybe, if we work for it, we can indeed 'LIVE THOSE DREAMS' again.
Watch it to see how good a movie can be if it doesn't succumb to the melodrama that is the staple diet of Bollywood and how, you don't need a big budget to win people's hearts.
Watch it to perhaps remember the person you once were. Go home and flip through your old college videos and snaps once you're done watchin the movie.
If you're still in college and just waiting to get out and take on the world.. Relax. Enjoy your life while you're still in there. Do what you want to do. Be who you want to be. Because this is the only time you may get. Once you enter the real life outside, well, as they say in the movie, 'you will have to compromise' every step of the way.
Watch it to rejoice the fact that Bollywood has finally matured.
Watch it.
Watch it..

Dr Roshan Radhakrishnan
For me, bringing a smile on a person’s face and making them forget their own worries is the ultimate reward at the end of the day. Professionally, I achieve this by donning a mask every day and working as an anaesthesiologist to relieve physical pain and suffering. On a personal level, I do the same with my words, replacing the mask of an anaesthesiologist with that of a whimsical writer.
My name is Dr Roshan Radhakrishnan and welcome to my Godyears.

:P a colleague who kept on muttering "pakav movie"!!!
ReplyDeletesomebody please enlighten him.... if he calls this pakav wat will he say of Verma ji's movies
Rat, if this is a 'pakav movie', kindly ask your colleague to wait 2weeks for a brilliant heart felt ORIGINAL superhit- himesh reshamiya's Karrz... With such heart renderin numbers like 'tandoori nights, tandoori nights'... Or if he can't wait that long, then 'Hijack' should give him somethin to be happy about!
ReplyDeleteRosh..... This idiot Loves Himesh and his Nasal Twang... i got to know that this saturday.. he is actually looking forward for KArzzzzz....(did i mispell that??)
ReplyDeletedont say u watched hijack.. it got a single star review
Didn't watch Hijack.. Like you, the reviews were very precise as to what to do with my ticket money. Went for A Wednesday.. Quite a nice movie, short, precise and really thought provoking.
ReplyDeleteAs for Himesh, It's amazing that people are awaitin his movie release lik as if He's Srk. We really are in the kaliyug, i guess!
all i can say is "Shiva Shiva" and hope that he doesnt ask me to accompany to that *sik* movie
ReplyDeletei was hoping someone would review the movie.i did all that and much more when i reached home.
ReplyDeleteloved farhan and his lisp.
roshan,
ReplyDeletei am surprised that people liked the movie.. i mean i liked the sstory and the concept.. but i thot the acting was pathetic !.. the only acting that was noteworthy was that of 'arjun rampal's wife'.. the others were just passable.. even that of farhan akthar.. and the songs.. !.. how boring they were .. !.. i am really surprised.. that people like this movie..
nothing compared to lakshya or DCH..
Wow. Veena, That's exactly the opposite of what i feel, to be frank. I thought all gave awesome performances. The songs were situational and very much keepin in mind, a young bunch of rockers thoughts. And i honestly liked it better than Dch, because where Dch succumbed to the love story in the second half, this stayed true to the theme of friendship and ambition.
ReplyDeleteIf you love Rock On, I suggest you watch 'A Wednesday'
ReplyDeletehe Movie is AWESOME. I liked Rock On a lot until the next weekend I saw Wednesday. :)
Adi, you're absolutely right. Like you, i saw it too last week. Awesomely done movie. Finally, Bollywood is arriving.
