After another final and refreshing exam for manipal, I'm back in kannur and eagerly awaiting the results. This year, entrance exams have been plagued by the spectre of malpractices and various innovative ways of cheating. Yet the biggest trick of getting a seat guarenteed is what i want to
talk about here. That's the method sponsored by the government itself...RESERVATION.
I wonder how our future generations wil judge when they read about us in history. Will they laugh at us..perhaps hopefully learn from all the mistakes we made..all the mistakes we repeat. For so long, caste was used as a hammer to smash those deemed lower than us. These sentments were never peculiar to India alone..they reverberated all over the world..Blacks faced it in the States, Indians face it even today around the world. With time, people have started to see beyond caste. It would appear people have finally opened their eyes and seen each other.
And then a curious change happened.. The same people who would be loathe to walk beside these "inferior" people now went out of their way to make up for their past sins. It led to a curious phenomenon in the States.."reverse racism" it is called. Where the black man was favoured over the white just so that it would show that there was NO PREFEReNCE for the white man. Suddenly, merit had nothing to do wih anything. Your weakness had become your strength.
Amazingly, India is now jumping on the same bandwagon.. the recent headlines and Bills in Parlaiment to raise reservations in studious institutions for OBCS to as much as 50 % is a crass waste of potential as far as I am concerned. This is not the way to say "I'm sorry for the sins of our past". Nor is it fair to the millions who deserve a seat on merit but are denied for being 'again', the wrong caste. I don't see how a student getting 20000 rank can get IIT solely on the basis of his Obc caste while a hard working kid at 200 is denied admission..it doesn't need a magic ball to know who the losers are eventually.
At any rate, I've hit upon my solution. I've seen my friends spend a full year struggling and poring over books and yet, the only one who's got a seat till date for PG courses has shelled out 60 lakhs or thereabouts for that seat. So I've hit upon the solution that'll save us all time and effort.
Since it's too late to enroll my dad or mom into the army ( MILITARY QUOTA ), the easiest thing to do Obviously is to change my caste..conversion to an OBC immediately puts me in line for any of the top seats in the country. HMMM...anyone else wanna join? I'm gonna search for a whole bunch of brochures on the various OBcs i can join..after all, only the worst will do !!
